If you've seen this, you are deep into the Shaw Bros. experience [and loving it].

Another of Chor Yuen/Ku Lung/Ti Lung combo movie - you've seen it all before, but this is another fine example of why the formula was used so many times. The plot is typically mad, and though I was often confused about what was going on it didn't seem to matter, as the visuals and the atmosphere are so intoxicating. Action is above average for the style.

Summary: Somewhat confusing
Like the reviewer below me, i did find this movie confusing, especially the characters. The mention Bat island, does this have anything to do with Ti lung's character from "legend of the bat"??
It is, at least, one of this kung fu detective/mystery movies where your not entirely sure whats going on and who the good and bad guys are. Maybe this just causes too much confusion.
I even forgotten who the last villian was. OH well, its still enjoyable to watch, despite the confusion, maybe another viewing may clear things up

Summary: Another great adaption
Bearing no similarity in plot what-so-ever with the first 2 Sentimental Swordsman movies, "Perils" is a weird movie with a misguided title, which combines titles of two novels, kinda like "Die Hard: Attack of the Clones." I really liked the movie initially, but after one more viewing, I found it pretty cheesy.
I would not recommend it to non-Chinese speakers at all, because even natives will be confused to the point of giving up (unlesss you are familiar with the novels). However, it does have enjoyable action with Ti Lung looking good most of the time--and bad occasionally. Lo Lieh once again takes off his underware for comic relief.
Overall, a pretty good mix between old school and new wave. Expect outdated dialogues.
