He joined the TVB Dancers Training Class in 1985. After graduation, he worked for a dancing performance company founded by Hui Yuen. Later, he worked with Law Man and became a member of Wind-Fire-Sea, that is one of the Leopard Kids. During this period, he was a dancer accompanying singers in their concert performance. He performed in the concerts of Alan Tam, Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui. Hui Yuen invited Jordan Chan to join him and produced his own music record. After he became a singer, he still continued his dancing performance. In 1994, he played a role in a film for the first time. The film is "Twenty Something". He received the Best Supporting Actor Award of Hong Kong Film Awards and a nomination of the Best New Performer for this film. He was nominated the Best Supporting Actor of Golden Horse Awards. The same year, he played a role in "He's a Woman, She's a Man", which established his reputation as a good comedian, he was again nominated the Best Supporting Actor and the Best New Performer of Hong Kong Film Awards. For both of "Heaven Can't Wait" (1996) and "Big Bullet" (1997) he received nominations of the Best Supporting Actor of the Hong Kong Film Awards. For "Big Bullet", he was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor of Golden Bauhinia Awards.

On February 14, 2010, Chan married longtime girlfriend Cherrie Ying in a private ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.
