| Wu Pang began his career in 1936 by working at the National Motion Pictures Studio. In
1938 he directed his first film ''Sending Winter Clothing by Night''. Later, he made ''Fishing
Village and War'', ''Hearts of Women'' with scripts written by Chun Kim. Wu also made
''The Earth's Clockwork'' on a script written by Tong Dik Sang and ''The Couple Part Under
Helpless Skies'', which is based on the life of Siu Ming Sing, a small time Cantonese opera
artist. In his forty year career Wu directed near 200 films, of which 58 belong to the ''Wong
Fei Hung'' series. He also made a Cantonese opera film ''The Story of the Lantern'' and the
costume action movie ''The Five Heroes' Deadly Spears'' etc. In 1993 Wu published a book
called ''Wong Fei Hung and I'', in which he recounts his experience in the filming of the ''Wong Fei Hung'' series and other movies that he had made. The Hong Kong Critics'
Association presented him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
